Ironmanlife: Macca's Gracious in Defeat
Since I didn't hesitate to report when Chris McCormack (right in the picture above with Timo Bracht and Eneko Llanos) failed to live up to his bold pre-race predictions all those years ago in Hawaii, it's only fair that I am equally quick to report on the times when the guy speaks with class and proves exactly why he has a right to be considered one of the best in the sport.

Ironman Switzerland Preview
This is the third consecutive weekend of Ironman racing in Europe and this time we head to Zurich, Switzerland to host what is largely a European affair. All eyes will undoubtedly be on Ronnie Schildknecht, not just because he's Swiss but because he's potentially on for a double hat-trick.

It is with deep regret that the management of Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya has made the decision to postpone Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya, which was originally scheduled for 26th July 2009.

Pros and age group athletes will also compete for a slot to the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3, taking place on November 14, 2009, in Clearwater, FL.

A Long Ironman Journey for Atkins
Quite frankly, the seven-mile run hadn't gone that well. Beverly Atkins' 42-year-old body just wasn't cooperating. Each stride felt labored. She never reached that blissful runner's high, and when Atkins pulled up to her West Los Angeles home, stepped inside and began stretching, she got to thinking.

Tour de South BC (to Calgary) - Journal and Pics
I had planned this trip last year, cycle from Richmond BC to Clagary Alberta. It’s about 1,100km/660mile trip that goes over about 7-8 mountain passes and traverses the southern part of British Columbia ending in the foot hills and ultimately in Calgary Alberta. I started out this June 27th (on my vacation) and ended in Calgary [...]
The greatest cycling race, Le Tour de France is back
Hi folks, Le tour de france is back and Lance Armstrong also. Yes, I was in my bed yestarday to rest and saw the first stage, a time trial stage with strong athletes. I was out of cycling races and didn´t know the best athletes and favorites, but now, I am updated

A remarkable day of racing in Klagenfurt
Ironman Austria has built a reputation as a fast course over the years, and last year's women's all-time record by Sandra Wallenhorst only served to re-inforce that. With Wallenhorst racing in Frankfurt this weekend, the stage was set for Bella Comerford to take over the championship, while three-time winner, Marino Vanhoenacker, was back to see if he could turn that into a four. So, no pressure there, then...

A Great Day for Germans in Frankfurt
In yet another exciting day of racing in Frankfurt, Timo Bracht set a course record in winning his second Ironman European Championship, while Sandra Wallenhorst won the much-anticipated showdown with Yvonne Van Vlerken to take the women's crown in Frankfurt.

Ironmanlife: Another Fast Mom
How'd you like to have your child go to kindergarten with Sandra Wallenhorst's son, Philip? "My daddy's an Ironman," or "My daddy runs every day," junior might say. "My mommy's the fastest Ironman ever and she swims and runs and bikes almost every day. She trains 40 hours a week. According to your dad's bosses, that's more than your ol' man works," Philip could reply, ending any further attempts at one up-manship.

Getting Ready for Frankfurt
There are a few people who consider the Frankfurter Sparkasse Ironman European Championship here in Frankfurt, Germany, to be the second most important Ironman race in the world. First on the list, of course, is a no-brainer - Kona's where it all began, Kona serves as the World Championship ... Kona is, well, Kona.

Eletric Bicycle, not for triathletes, but, for everybody
Hi folks, after a weekend with a lot of triathlon training (running and cycling), ok, swimming is also part of a triathlon training plan, but, during the weekend, I prefer to do sports that is hardest for me. How we need to work to pay our bills, bikes, shoes and triathlon travel, I needed to [...]
Back to Training … Again. My goal ? Ironman 70.3 Brazil
Hi athletes, sorry about my delay, but I am working a lot last month and haven’t time to training even to blog, so, I decided to pay my entry and now I need to train. I know that I am still have a good time since the race, 3 months, but if I didn’t start [...]
Ironmanlife: Steve Spitz's Ironman Journey
As he was out on a ride getting ready for last year's Ford Ironman World Championship, Steve Spitz was probably feeling pretty good about life. In a year of training he'd lost 90 pounds. His co-workers at Natrol knew how much getting to Kona meant for the 41-year-old lawyer - the company had pitched in to buy him a charity e-Bay spot to get to the race. Things were looking great ... well, they were until that big, black Range Rover cut him off and he flew over his handlebars.

DeBoom to race at Ironman 70.3 Kansas
Another Ironman World Champion will join two time Ford Ironman World Champion Chrissie Wellington at the starting line at the 2009 Ironman 70.3 Kansas Triathlon

Honu: Who knew?
Did you ever find yourself in the middle of an Ironman World Championship triathlon thinking, "This would be a great race if it was just shorter?"
Man, have I got news for you.

Official Ironman Louisville Camp Coming this July
After rave reviews in 2008, the Official Ironman Louisville Camp is back! The camp has been selling quickly and also offers an option for a combined camp/entry spot to Ford Ironman Louisville for those still looking to race an Ironman this summer. Highlights from the camp last year included cycling a loop of the beautiful rolling course in the countryside, a guided swim practice in the Ohio River, building nutrition plans for the race, planning strategies to deal with the heat and an overall fun and social atmosphere in a great city.

CAF to Auction Kona Slot
The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) will auction a prized slot to the Ford Ironman World Championship, organized and conducted by the World Triathlon Corporation, at a gala dinner in New York City on June 10. The winning bidder (or his/her designee) may compete in either 2009 or 2010. Proceeds from the auction will help fund specialized equipment, training and coaching for physically challenged athletes so they can participate in the sports that many able-bodied individuals take for granted.

Qualifying for Kona: Men from Arizona
November would be the second running of Ford Ironman Arizona in 2008, but the conditions for each event could not have been more different. In April athletes were taken to task with high temperatures and enough wind to create a sand storm on the bike course. In November, which is Arizona's new spot on the Ironman calendar, the weather was mild with just a bit of wind towards the end of the ride.

Griesbauer and Sturla take Brazil
Another Ironman Brazil is in the books and it was display of great competition and race tactics in both the men's and women's fields on the Island of Florianopolis.

Feelin' Hot, Hot, Hot
It was a great day for lounging at the beach in Hawaii today, but hundreds of athletes decided to swim, bike and run 70.3 miles along the Kohala Coast instead. The island went easy on the winds and water currents this year, but steamed up the course with blue skies and a searing sun.

Ironmanlife: Loving Lanzarote
If you ever wanted to know what it's like to sit inside the woofer of a giant speaker at a concert (and you didn't manage to get that close to the stage the last time you saw Springstein or Def Leppard), I can tell you exactly how you can duplicate that experience: attend the awards banquet at Ironman Lanzarote.

Meet the Kisers: Local Kona Couple Set to Race Saturday
The time is 3:30 am. The location is Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The date is October 11, 2008. It is the early morning hours before the 30th Anniversary Ford Ironman World Championship. Kym Kiser, a Kona resident, is just hours away from entering the water at the Kailua Pier and swimming off to start her first Ironman.

13 weeks and counting…..
…..and so starts IMC 2009 training. Ironman #5 coming up.
400k in a day Ride2Survive
Here it is, once again (year 2) I am going to be doing this ride2survive thing. It was a hell of a long 15hr. day last year, but I completed it. And it was for a great cause. Thank you for those that helped me ear $1,500.

200k Ride on a Great Day
I went for the first long ride of the year. For a number of reasons, 1) I need to lose some weight, 2) the 400k Ride 2 Survive is a month away, 3) I wanted to test out and see how I would feel after a long one day ride in prep for the ride [...]
Ironmanlife: How About Those Moms?
So how do they do it? How can they manage to make lunches, get kids to school, keep the house in order and still compete at the highest level of the sport? "Our Mom Rocks!" is the answer that Joshua, Jordan and Zachary Gollnick will provide when it comes to describing one of the sport's super-moms.

K-Swiss K Ona
When it comes to running shoes, Ironman athletes speak with their feet, and last month's Ironman China event proved that Ironman athletes are quickly falling in love with the latest Ironman specific running shoe from K-Swiss, the K Ona.

Christian Bodson Gets the Win Over a Bunch of Champions
Christian Bodson is no stranger to the Ford Ironman World Championship, but he's not exactly a regular, either. This was his third finish and his first win.

Fit Soul, Fit Body
After reading "Fit Soul, Fit Body," the new book by six-time Ford Ironman World Champion, Mark Allen, and his friend and shaman, Brant Secunda, I came away feeling the book could have been called "War & Peace II." For the Ironman devotee I am, I simply cannot erase "Iron War" from my mind.

Kona Qualifiers from Down Under
Held each December on the west coast of Australia in the quaint town of Busselton, Ironman Western Australia is one of the premier destination races on the Ironman circuit. The swim takes place around the Busselton Jetty, said to be the longest wooden structure in the southern hemisphere. The three-loop bike and run courses are conducive to record setting times. In this segment, we are going to meet the men and women who qualified to be at the start line of the 2009 Ford Ironman World Championships.

Marathon #7 Done
While there is no PR I lived through it, and the biggest thing that was learned was that you don’t always have to kill yourself to enjoy this sport. I arrived, I ran, I crossed and got my shirt and medal. That was the driving force in the last 5k which hurt, as all Mary’s [...]
Moving Up A Notch
Catriona Morrison and Tim O'Donnell scored major victories at today's St. Croix Ironman 70.3. The 32-year-old, Scottish born, had an impressive second place finish at April's inaugural New Orleans Ironman 70.3. O'Donnell, who finished third in New Orleans, had two wire-to-wire victories snatched away from him in 2008, both with less than one mile to go - at the Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs and the 5430 Long Course Triathlon. Their victories in St. Croix were well earned, and a whole lot better than second or third.

Ironmanlife: Have fun in St. Croix!
The pristine, beautiful, spectacular and exquisite island of St. Croix has, according to the always reliable Wikipedia, been colonized by seven different countries, including Spain, Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, the Knights of Malta (that's a country?), Denmark and the United States. This weekend it's being over-run by an eighth colonizing power: triathletes.

Joining her in the switch to Ceepo is husband and training partner, Justin Granger. He will be riding the newly released Ceepo Katana at the Hawaii event.

The Race is Sunday
and I have not run since a blast of 5k last Thursday. Last long 31k run was after the Sun Run on the 19th. I am fearing that it’s too much time off running. In all honesty I have been procrastinating. So now it’s gonna be 7 days of no running tomorrow. On the positive [...]
Support Team Operation Rebound at Ironman Florida 70.3
"Every dollar raised helps get another wounded soldier back in the game."
A small brigade of wounded veterans is being deployed to Orlando's Ft. Wilderness Campground next month to infiltrate the 2009 Ironman Florida 70.3 triathlon. Their mission? To conquer the challenging course while raising funds for other wounded comrades. Their leader? Former Army commander David Rozelle, who led troops in combat in Iraq both before and after losing a leg when his Humvee hit a land mine.

Cervelo P2C vs. Cervelo P3C
I am receiving a lot of emails from people that ask me about the most difference between Cervelo’s Bikes, the Cervelo P2C and Cervelo P3C. I am not an expert about bike frame, composite, geometry and other features that should be used as a direction to buy a new tri bike, but, I have a [...]
Ironmanlife: One of the Ultimate 100
As a huge fan of Ironman it was pretty exciting to hear that Robert Tuchman has named the Ford Ironman World Championship number 51 in his book "The 100 Sporting Events You Must See Live: An Insider's Guide to Creating the Sports Experience of a Lifetime." It is a fantastic achievement. We owe Mr. Tuchman, who happens to be a two-time Ford Ironman Lake Placid finisher, big time. That said ... while I am, no doubt, a bit biased on this front, I can't believe we didn't get first.

Henning and Paul take Ironman China
On a day that saw temperatures rise to 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit) survival became the mantra for the athletes in both the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races here in Haikou, Hainan, China. In the end it was two-time Danish Olympian Rasmus Henning and Australia's Charlotte Paul who prevailed in the Ironman race, while Aussies Chris McCormack and Amanda Balding took the Ironman 70.3 titles.

Ironman China Heats Up Tropical Hainan Island
Balmy blue skies are greeting athletes arriving in Hainan for the second Ironman China and Ironman 70.3 China, both presented by K-SWISS. There is no sign of the stormy weather that brought a typhoon to China's tropical south just days before the inaugural race in 2008. Still, as Ironman Chinawas labelled by many experienced athletes as being the toughest in the Ironman series, there is much speculation about the weather as the mercury appears to be rising.

Ironmanlife: Go Dave Go!
Happy Easter, everyone! I hope you enjoy a great weekend, eat lots of chocolate, and, if you're in North America, enjoy the coverage of the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 that will air on NBC on Sunday. This week's column is very simple - it's a response that I received from one of the original Ironman racers in 1978, Dave Orlowski.
Special Offers for Ironman 70.3 Hawaii Participants
There's never been a better time to travel to Ironman 70.3 Hawaii, but you'll need to enter and organize your trip soon - the race is filling fast! An Impressive Win in Oceanside for Reed
Matt Reed, one suspects, might possess a future in long-distance racing. Judge for yourself ... At the Ironman 70.3 California at Oceanside last Saturday, Reed lined up for a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run for the first time, by his memory, in five years. A New Zealand native who represented the United States in the Beijing Olympics, Reed did OK in Oceanside.

Natascha Badmann appears to have recovered from the bike crash at the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship that sidelined her for most of last year after breaking the course record and beating a strong field that included defending Foster Grant Ironman 70.3 World Champion Joanna Zeiger. Brent McMahon managed to outrun the competitive men's field to take the men's title in New Orleans.
Red hot racing in Port Elizabeth
With temperatures topping 30 degrees Celsius it was more than the racing that was hot here in Port Elizabeth today. A thrilling day of racing that was to see new swim and overall course records for both men and women started as near 1,500 athletes thundered into the Indian Ocean to the sounds of African drummers and dancers performing on Hobie Beach.

- Athletes will have to conserve some energy for the short and extreme 5km Run. The run will start on a tarmac road and will then go off-road when directed up to woodland paths. Athletes will cross a river, go under the bridge and then follow the river and then comeback, it's the real deal, so be prepared to get wet and muddy.

Runners will need to be light on their toes as they twist and turn through a windy up and down run course through some well-groomed and not so well-groomed trails.
The new XTERRA Portland race is part of the evolving and expanding XTERRA America Tour which will feature more than 60 XTERRA off-road triathlons in 35 states, the U.S. Territory of Guam and Commonwealth of Saipan in 2009.

Tagaman Triathlon Celebrating 20th Anniversary
The Tagaman Triathlon was established by the then Managing Director of the Marianas Visitors Authority, JM Guerrero, to promote tourism, and with the help of Kinki Nippon Tours and a trip to Miyakojima for their major triathlon, a small island south of Japan, the seed was planted.
The first Tagaman Triathlon was held in 1988, on Saipan, with the assistance of the All Japan Triathlon Club, who helped not only as officials but even brought a few bikes for the local athletes. This was the beginning of triathlons on Saipan and the existence of the Tagaman Triathlon.
The Tagaman is the longest running race in the Western Pacific, drawing its name and inspiration from TAGAMAN, a legendary king of the ancient Chamorros. His feats of strength included moving huge boulders carved as capstones, known as Taga Stones, a unique remnant of the original island people of the Marianas.

A several weeks ago the Canadian Olympic Team (Simon Whitfield, Paul Tichelaar, Colin Jenkins) was in town to race the at the Life Time Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis. It was a great day for Simon and the gang as Simon eventually managed to pass Greg Bennett for the lead and then stay ahead of a surging Andy Potts for the victory and nice $60,000 paycheck.
After the race the gang stayed in the Minneapolis area to rest and train for the New York City Triathlon the following weekend and the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Some how Gear West, the sponsor of our triathlon club managed to get the guys from the Canadian Olympic Team to join us on our weekly tri club bike ride. What a pleasure it was to ride and chit-chat with them on our 30 mile ride. They were all very friendly and hung around afterwards for pictures. I was able to snag a picture of Simon with a TRImapper logo after telling him about the site.
Simon won the Gold medal at the inaugural running of the Triathlon event at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Eight years later he has a great race in China, his awesome surge at the end took him from 4th place to 2nd place and win the Silver medal. CONGRATULATIONS Simon!
